October the 12th saw the first National TSRF and Limited motor Formula One race in the UK.
Held at the famous (infamous?!) Oaklands track in Birmingham and sponsored by AB SlotSport and SCD, Race Day saw 16 intrepid racers tip up for the racing on the newly modified Oaklands track.

Racing classes were as follows;-
1/32 TSRF Sports
1/32 Formula One restricted motor (c can up to G12)
1/32 Formula One Class 2 (Falcon motors).

The whole day definitely illustrated that good competitive racing can be had for all levels of racer using low cost equipment and it has to be said that the general standard of car presentation was very good, with the Concours cars being presented to a very high level of finish. All classes proved very popular with all racers, especially the Falcon Formula one class. After the TSRF and Falcon classes, a 30 minute “warm-up and grip up” session was conducted prior to the Ltd. Motor Formula one qualifying and race.

Concourse winners (best 3 in each class) were
In Formula One;
Pete Maillinson, Mick Kerr and Adam LeMaistre
In TSRF;
Graeme Stephenson, Pete Mallinson and Mick Kerr.

The race format for all classes was
1 minute qualifying All laps to count followed by a 4 x 3 minute segmented race, win from any final.

As this was the first race for all these classes, much was learnt by racers in terms in car set-up and required driving styles, the modified Oaklands track offering a good challenge for all racers including home drivers who had little if no time prior to the event to learn the track.

The Oaklands track and (right) the new “esses” after the bridge tunnel. Even the home drivers found these challenging for the first few segments and they should prove interesting for the other meetings likely at the track including BSL and BOC events.

Many thanks go to Ralph, Graham and Chris for hosting the meeting and ensuring that race control and event organisation ran with the usual efficiency and “laid back” organisation.
All racers enjoyed the event and further TSRF and Ltd F1 events are planned in ‘04 at Pontefract and a special “TSRF and Falcon F1 challenge at the Sandtex surfaced Wellingborough track.
Doubtless many other racers will be joining us for these events!
