The cars themselves were a mix of Genuine Retro also chassis built around the “Retro” ethic and design, along with a few modified production cars (who ran a weight penalty) and even a TSRF. Anyone not having “motors” of the period were limited to Super 16d’s, however there were plenty of 70’s motors still kicking a punch! This form of slot racing seems to be building a following in the UK and one may think that this could be due to the “modelling” and “Building” side of the challenge as well as the fun and social aspects, not to mention the racing! Personally speaking, I can’t remember burning so many fingers building “ conventional modern slot cars”, compared to the 16 & 18 gauge brass/piano wire retro chassis (or stripping so many gears) for around 30 years! Hopefully the following pics will give an idea of the flavour of the race meeting. Rumour has it that the next Retro bash will be at Wildfields on the old Nats track - so plenty of scope for G20 speed and styrene destruction there!Andy Brown-Searle
